Great Fall Poolside Grilling Ideas

Posted on: September 12th, 2018 by

What’s better than a poolside grill out (especially after an awesome swimming pool renovation project)? If you answered nothing, we’d be inclined to agree. There’s just something so relaxing and fun about that kind of atmosphere that you can’t help but want to take advantage of it. As the seasons turn, we’ve still got plenty of heat to look forward to in Georgia, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get into the Fall spirit with some seasonally appropriate grilling options. Not sure where to start? We’ve got a few poolside grilling ideas to help get your grilling inspiration flowing.

Baby Artichokes

They’re good for more than just delicious spinach and artichoke dip (though we’ll never turn that down, either!). Baby artichokes grill up beautifully with a little olive oil and a dash of salt, and they look highly impressive as well. So not only do you get to serve up some delicious and nutritious veggies poolside, you get to wow your guests, too. Win-win, if you ask us.

Broccoli and Arugula Salad

This is technically only half-grilled, but hear us out. Grilling up some seasoned broccoli and tossing it with a touch of balsamic vinaigrette and fresh arugula is a late-summer, early-fall treat you really don’t want to miss out on. Totally fresh, with a complex flavor and just the right amount of tang thanks to the balsamic and lemony-pepper fresh arugula bite. It’s a must-try.

Chicken Skewers

This is a grilling classic, and there’s no better time to shake it up with some fall-like honey-mustard marinades than this time of year. Break up the chicken chunks with colorful veggies and you’ll have yourself a dish that’s as attractive as it is delicious, and easy-to-eat, too. Just what a proper poolside meal demands.

Sweet Potatoes and Squash

One of the best parts of fall harvests are the late season squashes and sweet potatoes. Acorn squash, butternut squash, spaghetti squash, sweet potatoes, and even, yes, you guessed it, pumpkin can make for great grill companions if you know what you’re doing. Each squash will require a little different treatment, but a good grilled sweet potato cracked open and stuffed with buffalo chicken and topped with a drizzle of ranch is the kind of game day treat you can definitely get behind while you cheer on your team with your toes dipped in the cool pool water.

Flatbreads Galore

Something about the changing seasons makes us crave carbs, we swear, and there are few better ways to indulge in that than to pack a flatbread full of fall vegetables, meats, cheeses, and a touch of olive oil, and pop it on the grill to achieve a good char. It may not be a wood-fired oven, but it’s a close second we’ll take any day of the week.

Burgers Still Apply

Burgers may be the quintessential summer grilling classic, but we believe they deserve their fall moment in the sun, too. The beautiful thing about a burger is that it’s essentially a blank canvas. It becomes the things you choose to pair it with. Try a turkey burger with pesto and arugula, or a bison burger with sharp cheddar and some chipotle aioli. There are a hundred ways to style it, so lean into the fallish spices and ingredients and amp up your burger game in a new way.

Before you really consider closing the pool for the season, make sure you get a few more grill sessions in – and get a little adventurous with what you choose to grill in between cannonball contests. You might surprise yourself with a new favorite that becomes a grill time staple.
