What’s Included in Our Pool Cleaning Service

A clean pool is more than clear water. Every Allen Pool cleaning visit covers the surfaces you see and the systems you don’t:

  • Skim leaves, pollen and debris from the water surface
  • Empty skimmer and pump baskets
  • Brush walls, steps, benches and the waterline
  • Vacuum the pool floor
  • Clean waterline tile
  • Test and balance water chemistry
  • Clean or backwash the filter as needed
  • Clear debris from the pool deck and equipment pad
  • Clean and check automatic pool cleaners
  • Check the pump, filter and heater for proper operation

Because our technicians are also trained in pool equipment repair, they notice the small things during a cleaning: a pump that sounds wrong, a filter pressure that’s creeping up, a leak at the equipment pad. Catching those early costs far less than replacing equipment after it fails.

Pool Cleaning Options for Every Situation

Weekly Pool Cleaning

Weekly cleaning is the most dependable way to keep an Atlanta pool swim-ready. Regular visits keep chemistry stable, prevent algae, and stop debris from staining the surface. We offer weekly pool cleaning with no contract required, and annual contracts that add year-round service, pool opening and closing, and no service call fees.

One-Time Pool Cleaning

Hosting a party, listing a home, or coming back from a long trip? A one-time pool cleaning gets your pool back in shape without an ongoing commitment. If you’re buying or selling a home with a pool, pair it with our real estate pool inspection.

Green Pool Cleanup and Algae Removal

A green pool means algae has taken hold. Our green pool cleaning process kills the algae, removes it from the water and the filter, and rebalances the chemistry so it doesn’t come right back. Details on how we do it are below.

Drain and Acid Wash

When a pool has been neglected for a long time, shock alone may not restore it. Our team can drain the pool and acid wash the interior to remove stains and embedded algae. An acid wash typically restores the interior finish. If the finish is badly damaged, it may need resurfacing or replastering, and we’ll tell you honestly which one your pool needs.

Commercial Pool Cleaning

HOA, apartment, hotel and club pools face heavy bather loads and health code expectations. Allen Pool has kept Atlanta’s commercial pools clean since 1972, whether you manage one pool or several properties. Learn more about our commercial pool services.

Why Is My Pool Green?

Your pool turns green when algae grows faster than your sanitizer can kill it. That happens when chemistry falls out of balance, even for a short time. The most common causes are:

Our Green Pool Cleaning Process

  1. Test and inspect. We test the water and check the pump and filter to find out why the pool turned.
  2. Remove debris. We skim, empty baskets and clear out leaves before treatment.
  3. Brush every surface. Brushing breaks up algae so the treatment can reach it.
  4. Shock the pool. After shock is applied, the water will look cloudy for about 24 hours, and you should not swim for 24 hours.
  5. Clean the filter. Dead algae clogs filters fast, so we clean the filter during the cleanup.
  6. Vacuum the dead algae. We remove the debris that settles to the floor.
  7. Rebalance the water. We bring pH, alkalinity and chlorine back into range.
  8. Prevent the next one. We’ll recommend the cleaning schedule or equipment fix that keeps it from happening again.

Most green pools clear with this process. Severely neglected pools may need a drain and acid wash to fully restore the finish.

Pool cleaning is often the first step. When your pool needs more, the same team can help:

How much does pool cleaning service cost in Atlanta?

The cost of pool cleaning depends on your pool’s size, its current condition, how often you want service, and how much tree cover surrounds it. A weekly cleaning costs less per visit than a one-time cleanup of a green pool, which takes more labor and chemicals. Allen Pool provides a free, no-obligation quote, and annual contract customers pay no service call fees.

How often should a pool be cleaned?

Most Atlanta pools should be cleaned weekly during swim season. Weekly service keeps chemistry stable and prevents algae. Pools under heavy trees, and pools during spring pollen season or fall leaf drop, may need extra attention.

How long does it take to clean a green pool?

Most green pools clear within a few days of treatment, depending on how much algae is present and how well the filter is working. A pool that has been neglected for months may need a drain and acid wash to fully restore the finish.

Can I swim right after a pool is shocked?

No. After shock is applied, the water will look cloudy for about 24 hours, and you should wait 24 hours before swimming.

What is the difference between pool cleaning and pool maintenance?

Pool cleaning is the physical work of removing debris, brushing, vacuuming and clearing algae. Pool maintenance is the ongoing plan that includes cleaning plus water chemistry, filter care and equipment checks. Allen Pool’s pool maintenance service includes cleaning on every visit.

Do I have to sign a contract for weekly pool cleaning?

No. Allen Pool offers weekly pool cleaning with no contract required. Annual contracts are available and include year-round service, pool opening and closing, and no service call fees.

When does a pool need an acid wash?

A pool needs an acid wash when stains or embedded algae remain after normal cleaning and shock treatment. An acid wash requires draining the pool and usually restores the interior finish. If the plaster is badly damaged, resurfacing is the better fix.

How do I keep Atlanta’s spring pollen out of my pool?

You can’t keep pollen out entirely, but you can keep it from causing problems. Atlanta’s pollen season peaks from mid-March to mid-April. During that window, skim frequently, clean the filter more often, and keep chlorine in range, since pollen consumes sanitizer. A pool cover also helps.

Do you clean saltwater pools?

Yes. Allen Pool cleans and maintains salt water pools, including the salt cell, which needs periodic cleaning to keep producing chlorine.

Do you offer commercial pool cleaning?

Yes. Allen Pool has cleaned and maintained commercial pools in Atlanta since 1972, including HOA, apartment and hospitality pools. See our commercial pool services.

What areas do you serve for pool cleaning?

Allen Pool serves 18 North Metro Atlanta communities, including Alpharetta, Brookhaven, Buckhead, Chamblee, Decatur, Doraville, Druid Hills, Duluth, Dunwoody, Johns Creek, Marietta, North Decatur, North Druid Hills, Peachtree Corners, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Tucker and Vinings.
