Our Favorite Swimming Pool Games

If you have kids, you know that they love games. And, there is nothing more fun than swimming pool games. As your swimming pool maintenance company, we have heard a lot of different pool games and variations. So, we thought we would put together a list of some of our favorite games that you and the kids can enjoy this summer.

Octopus

Octopus is the swimming pool game version of the old playground favorite Red Rover. To start, one person stands in the middle of the pool while the others line up on the other side.  The one in the middle is “it”. Then, everyone tries to swim past “it” while avoiding being tagged. If tagged, that person then joins hands with the “it” while the others try to get to the other side. This continues until everyone is tagged and then a new “it” is chosen.

Dolphins and Sharks

Divide half the people into “sharks” and the other half into “dolphins”. Leave one person as “leader”.  One-half of the pool will be the dolphins’ safe zone and the other half is the sharks’ safe zone. Have the leader call out either “dolphins” or “sharks”. Whichever team is called out by the leader, that team has to quickly swim to their safe zone without being tagged by the other team. During play, the leader can call different groups, which then changes which team needs to make it to their safe zone. If tagged, that player switches sides. The game ends when everyone is on the same team.

Noodle Joust

Have two players sit on a raft in the middle of the pool. Give each player a pool noodle that they use to push the other player off the raft.

Frozen T-Shirt Thaw

This pool game takes a little prep work, but it can be very fun. Take two wet t-shirts, wad them up, and then freeze them for two to three days. For the game, divide into two teams. Each team gets a frozen shirt. Each team races to somehow thaw the shirt using anything in the yard. Every 15 seconds, the shirt goes to another teammate to try something different. The first team to get the shirt thawed and on someone wins.

Pool Scavenger Hunt

Find a variety of objects and throw two of each into the pool. Divide into two teams and shout, “Go!”. Each team then collects one of each item from the bottom of the pool. The first team to collect each item wins! Note, avoid throwing in items that are sharp, glass, or electronic (like iPhones).
